Jazz Band

Jazz Band is an opportunity for 7th and 8th grade band students to learn and perform jazz music. We will play all styles of jazz, including swing, latin, and rock.  Students will learn to improvise solos on their instruments.  All woodwind, brass, and percussion players are invited to audition. Drumset, piano, bass and guitar players are needed in the ensemble.  Jazz Band meets on Tuesday mornings from 8:00 - 8:55 a.m.

Percussion Ensemble

The RMS Percussion Ensemble offers 7th and 8th grade percussionists an opportunity to perform literature and explore playing techniques not covered in a full concert band setting. Students have the opportunity to play a variety of battery and keyboard instruments as well as perform wide range of musical styles. All 7th and 8th grade percussionists are eligible for Percussion Ensemble. Rehearsals are on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 - 8:55 AM.

Mallet Ensemble

The RMS Mallet Ensemble another percussion ensemble offering that is devoted to keyboard percussion literature. Students will perform a variety of music written for keyboard ensembles. Mallet Ensemble is an auditioned group open to 7th and 8th grade percussionists. It will rehearse on Monday mornings from 8:00 - 8:55 AM.

Pep Band

The RMS Pep Band is one of several seasonal ensembles. This group will perform at home basketball games that take place at Central Gwinnett. Students have the opportunity to perform some marching band style tunes as well as other fun pep tunes to cheer on our black knight basketball team. This group is open to any 7th or 8th grade band students. Rehearsals begin near the end of fall semester and will be on Friday mornings from 8:00 - 8:55 AM.

Toys for Tots Band

The RMS Toys for Tots Band is another seasonal ensemble. This group will perform USMC Toys for Tots kickoff in Lawrenceville. This group is open to any 7th or 8th grade band students and will rehearse on Friday mornings from 8:00 - 8:55 AM.

20th Anniversary Band

This year is the 20th Anniversary of Richards Middle School. During the school year there will be a celebration which will include a performance by the 20th Anniversary Band Ensemble. This group is open to any 7th or 8th grade band students and will rehearse on Friday mornings from 8:00 - 8:55 AM.
